Summary of the first meeting,

The background, rationale and terms of reference were discussed and broadly agreed to, with some additions. In particular, the following suggestions were made:

1.	Broadening the scope to include maintenance.
2.	Focussing also on bi-directional and multi-level problems.
3.	Taking into consideration models to address temporal issues, such as future planning and historical time slices (snap shots).
4.	To consider the work of CERCO, ISO/TC 211, IHO, NOTAM(Notice to Airmen), OGC, European Union Commission V.
5.	Suppliers run out of budget, resulting in inconsistent updating not according to plan.
6.	Updates from field teams to their corporate data bases.
7.	Updating contexts (just non-spatial attributes, reference spatial data, etc).

The WG will start immediately with the literature study and will share the results.

Possible venues for the next meeting were discussed, which will be held in Europe.

Possibilities include:

1.	The week before the ISPRS meeting in Amsterdam in July 2000.
2.	After the meeting of the ICA Commission on Transfer Standards, June 2000.
3.	The joint meeting of the ICA Commissions of Map Production and Generalisation, scheduled for September 2000 in Barcelona.

All participants are encouraged to identify possible members and collaborators for the WG.
